The Robinson Helicopter Company Maintenance Course is an essential training program for those involved in the maintenance and repair of Robinson helicopters, ensuring high standards of safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance. It provides aviation mechanics and technicians on the proper maintenance, repair, and overhaul of R22, R44, and R66 helicopters. It covers essential topics such as inspection protocols, troubleshooting techniques, and repair procedures specific to Robinson the R22, R44, and R66. Participants in the course gain hands-on experience and theoretical knowledge under the guidance of experienced instructors. The goal is to ensure that maintenance personnel are well-equipped to perform their duties effectively, adhere to safety standards, and maintain the reliability and airworthiness of Robinson helicopters. This training is crucial for maintaining operational excellence and safety in the aviation industry.

Who Should Attend

The course is exclusively open to U.S. government-licensed airframe mechanics or their foreign equivalents. It should be noted that this course does not possess approval from Transport Canada or EASA. Please refer to the 'Other Training' section for information regarding Transport Canada and EASA.

This course is conducted entirely in English, and participants must have proficiency in both understanding and speaking the language. Applicants who are not fluent in English must arrange for an experienced interpreter with technical helicopter knowledge to accompany them, as admission into the course will not be granted otherwise.

Course Duration and Curriculum

The R22/R44/R66 Factory Maintenance Course conducted by RHC is a hands-on program focused on airframe maintenance for the R22, R44, and R66 helicopters. The course includes a thorough review and explanation of the Maintenance Manual, as well as an exclusive factory tour for attendees.

The course spans 8 full days with no sessions held on Saturdays or Sundays. All registrants are required to arrive by 7:45 a.m. daily, with classes commencing promptly at 8:00 a.m. Participants must attend the entire course to qualify for a completion certificate, and each day concludes around 4:00 p.m. A continental breakfast is provided daily.

Attendance alone does not guarantee passing. Daily written exams are mandatory, and passing grades are essential. Practical evaluations during shop sessions assess hands-on performance. Approximately 1.5 hours of reading homework is assigned nightly. Failure to pass exams or demonstrate safe inspection and maintenance skills, as judged by the instructor, may result in course failure.

What to Bring

  • Students are required to bring the following items to the course. DO NOT BRING TOOLS. Robinson provides all necessary tools.
  • Calculator (most cell phones have adequate calculators)
  • Colored markers or highlighters, at least 4 different colors, for tracing electrical schematics.
  • Appropriate shop or work clothing. Sandals, sleeveless shirts, shorts, etc. are not permitted.

Prerequisites

Government-issued Airframe Mechanic (or Engineer) License, or military equivalent for active-duty personnel attending on orders.

A working knowledge of aircraft hardware, piston engines, magneto ignition systems (R22/R44), turbine engines (R66), TIG welding of aircraft steel tubing, sheet-metal construction & finishing, metal fatigue, weight & balance, basic physics, and basic electronics.

Students must review subject areas they may be weak in prior to the course.

How to Enroll

Course attendance is limited to 12 students, on a first come, first-serve basis. To secure your place, please complete and submit the application along with the tuition, a copy of your government-issued Airframe Mechanic (or Engineer) License, or military or foreign equivalent (display rating), and government-issued identification.

The course is typically sold-out several months ahead of the scheduled course dates. If your preferred date is not available, you'll be scheduled for an alternative date. Formal confirmation will be sent via email. If you haven't received confirmation with a week of submitting your application, please contact the Course Administrator at the Course Administrator (maintenance_course@robinsonheli.com) to verify receipt. Refrain from making travel arrangements until you receive a formal confirmation. Course dates are subject to cancellation if sufficient registrations are not attained.

Tuition

$1,600 U.S. per person

Cancellation Policy

Reservations and tuition are non-transferable. To reschedule, notify RHC at least two weeks before your course date to avoid an additional 50% tuition fee and to select a new class date. Cancellations made at least two weeks before your scheduled course date are eligible for a 90% refund. No refunds will be issued for cancellations made less than two weeks before the scheduled date, and no-shows forfeit their entire tuition.
